Karrie Fletcher-Rollins
Karrie is the Executive Director of Free Mom Hugs, a non-profit, nationwide movement of love, visibility and acceptance for the LGBTQIA+ community, with chapters in all 50 states and 37,000+ volunteers.
Karrie has quite a story, coming out as a gay Christian in 2016 after spending 14 years in “ex-gay” ministry and conversion therapy. Since, she has been advocating for full inclusion of the LGBTQ community in the church and in society. In 2017, she became actively involved with the Reformation Project, an organization at the forefront of advocacy work for LGBTQ Christians. Prior to joining Free Mom Hugs as Executive Director, Karrie worked in higher education for over 20 years, and holds a Master’s degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.
Sara Cunningham
Sara Cunningham is the founder of Free Mom Hugs. Her journey began in conservative Oklahoma, when her son came out as gay. As a woman of faith, Sara wrestled with that news until she began to study, research, and reconcile. Hers is a journey “from the Church to the Pride parade,” where amidst countless hugs and horror stories, the mission of Free Mom Hugs began.
Now a global movement, Sara goes beyond the hug to engage faith, civic, and business leaders in efforts to make the world a kinder, safer place for our LGBTQIA+ family. Her appearances include the Today show, the GLAAD Awards, and the 2022 Mama Bears documentary, and she’s been featured in the NY Times, The Washington Post, and People magazine. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis has bought the rights to Sara’s book How We Sleep at Night for a potential movie.
