Here are three invaluable things to know and respect about the LGBTQ+ community:
1) There is no such thing as the gay lifestyle (operative word = the). That is an inaccurate generalization and stereotype. Many LGBTQ+ folks lead responsible, moral, productive lives.
2) Most LGBTQ+ individuals have little to no interest in God and church because of wounding messages and experiences growing up — which generally remain unresolved, and unaccounted for.
3) Some LGBTQ+ individuals have fought their way back to Christian faith and a restored relationship with Jesus. Yet that is a small minority of the community. For most that is too painful or risky.
As churches, Christians and humans, we all choose what matters most.
As many of you, I have decided my highest duty is not defending a position, but defending people.
Beyond the noise and the news, look deeper to find the real story of LGBTQ+ people. As part of the Christian church, you can take responsibility. You can be an agent of healing.
