MTR Connect | Exodus Shutdown, 10 Years Later | Alan Chambers & Candice Czubernat

September 26 @ 7:30 pm - 8:45 pm

Free

MTR Connect is a gathering of curious Christians seeking to make things right with LGBTQ+ people.

Join us as we explore an important part of LGBTQ+ history. 10 years ago, the global ex-gay ministry Exodus shut it’s doors, with its executive director Alan Chambers issuing a formal apology to LGBTQ+ people for harm caused.

In this episode, I’ll feature my good friend Alan as we both share our history with Exodus. Also joining will be Candice Czubernat, a 20-year licensed mental health counselor and founder of The Christian Closet network, providing spiritual and mental health services to LGBTQ+ people.

This is sensitive and important subject matter, as many in the LGBTQ+ community have experienced harm from reparative therapy and ex-gay ideologies. Let’s explore how we can help make things right.

Alan Chambers served as the final president of Exodus International, a global ex-gay ministry, from 2001 to 2013. Soon after he began denouncing conversation therapy in 2012, Alan along with the organization’s leaders and board of directors closed down the organization, issuing a formal apology for harm caused. He committed to building new relationships with the LGBTQ+ community and encouraged the global Church to do the same.

Alan was featured in literally every major media outlet regarding the closing of Exodus International, and released a book My Exodus: From Fear to Grace (Zondervan, 2015). These days, Alan and his wife, Leslie, spend their time being available to anyone who desires to talk.

Candice Czubernat is the founder of The Christian Closet, a trusted network of counselors providing spiritual and mental health services to LGBTQ+ People. With a masters in Counseling Psychology, Candice is a 20-year Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She considers it a privilege to have walked with countless people through the stories of their lives, helping them find happiness, wholeness and healing.
